What a fun and exciting year! Together we put a little spring in our step and brought April, May and June in for a triple play. Check it out:
Administrative Professionals Day – a day? How about a week! We treated our favorite office gals to little treats each and every day the week of April 25th. These ladies work tirelessly to keep our school running smooth and organized and we can’t thank them enough!
Race for Technology – We brought in May with our new Race for Technology 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run. The race featured the newly formed running club which had 77 runners from 3rd through 5th grades with 225 total race participants. MVES staff, family members of MVES students and area residents participated in this fun event, raising over $2,200 towards new computers for our school! Want to see the results and photo gallery? A special thank you goes out to PTO volunteer Francine Barnes for pulling together this new event and leading a team of hard-working volunteers that have created a new must-attend annual event! More thank you’s to Mrs. Cole and the MVES Running Club and Station 24 Fire Department. And a HUGE thank you to Harris Teeter, the PTO’s #1 supporter, for donating all of the FREE concessions for this event. Prizes were generously donated by The Running Store in Gainesville. Other raffle prizes included RoadID gift certificates, gift certificates from Fosters, Haymarket Kettlebell Training, Coldstone Creamery, Chick-fil-A and Pump It Up.
Teacher Appreciation Week - Hip hip hooray for our heroes! As students showered the teachers with flowers, pictures, poems and more, the parents put on a daily spread of yummy treats to show our teachers how much we really do appreciate them. From breakfasts, to tea and cupcakes, to tea and cookies, it was a yummy week thanks to the PTO volunteers. There were many thank you notes from the teachers – but the real thanks goes back to THEM. MVES is so cougarrific because of our #1 teachers!
Popcorn Friday – I say “pop,” you say “corn.” POP! CORN! POP! CORN!… POPCORN! Thank you popcorn Friday volunteers for bringing us so many smiles. We truly appreciate your dedication throughout this year and look forward to this favorite treat next year. A year-end thank you goes out to Patty Craig and the Popcorn Group that consistently donated 4 hours every 1st Friday from October to May – whew! That’s dedication!
Chess Club - Yet another high-demand and affordable club for our youngsters! MVES, the PTO and Battlefield High School worked together to bring a chess club to MVES. This academic club was in such demand, maxed out at 34 students because of space, that we’re looking at creative solutions to bring this club back next year with more students able to participate. A special thank you goes out to PTO volunteers Nicole Svenson and Charlotte Peyton for launching our new chess club!
Speaking of clubs…if you would like to volunteer to run a club, please email Candi Helmlinger right away! We’re setting our plans for next year and hope to offer more and more fun enrichment clubs that take learning experience at MVES to the next level.
Yearbooks- PTO volunteers Jen Skaff and Suzanne Mason put together a fabulous book of memories for MVES! Find yourself, your teachers, friends…and those tiny little paw prints that are so tricky to discover. You’ll enjoy this trip down memory lane for many years to come. Congrats to 5th Grader Jake C. who’s artwork won the coveted cover!
5th Grade Dance - This year-end tradition is always so special. PTO volunteers Signe Yates and Vickie Hackler led a team of volunteers to create a memorable event marking the end of an era for our 5th graders. Each student decorated a star that hung from the ceiling with 300 balloons. There was a DJ, games, raffles, prizes, cupcakes and singing galore! Each student went home with a t-shirt that listed all of their fellow 5th graders’ names on the back. And you’re right, we will “Never Forget You!”
Heritage Day – Our teachers created a fun-filled day of presenters that talked about their heritage – from Poland to Pittsburgh, our students learned about different family traditions, customs, and cultures. The PTO helped support this day with parent volunteers to serve as greeters as well as cookies and coffee for our fabulous presenters. Thanks to all that stepped up and helped make this day a success!
Box Tops – We added this last-minute grade-level competition to help clean out your desk drawer of all those little rectangular boxes…and for a little fun, extra recess, and fruit pops! The 3rd grade won the prize and MVES earned over $400 in totally FREE MONEY! A special thank you goes out to Laurie Payne and the Free Money Group.
Volunteer Appreciation Reception – because we couldn’t have done it without you! PTO President Jen Skaff graciously opened her home for a fun night out to celebrate all that we accomplished together…and when you see the numbers later this week, you’ll see just how much we have to celebrate!
Don’t stop now – JUMP IN! Our organization pulls together the volunteer and financial resources to support our school and bring the important academic and fun add-ons that will continue to make our school one of the best in PWC.
