Your PTO Dollars at Work!

The first day of school came and we’re off and running!  We’ve set an aggressive PTO Business Plan for this year and hope to raise as much as possible towards the $34,000 we need for a new computer lab at MVES.

As you know, the PTO sponsors many programs at MVES.  Here are some of the things we’ve tackled in September:

  • PTO Teacher Luncheon: When the teachers return from summer break, they have a lot of work to do to prepare for the arrival of their new students.  The PTO sponsored a lunch with the help of UNO Chicago Grill in Atlas Walk so that we could present our agenda and discuss ways that we can work together to meet our goals.
  • PTO Ice Cream Social at Meet the Teacher: Families were greeted by our new Cougar Mascot and treated to ice cream courtesy of Harris Teeter.  The PTO began signing up members and gathering volunteers for an event-filled new year.
  • Bully-Free Assembly: The PTO sponsored the Everyone Belongs assembly in September that was rated an overwhelming EXCELLENT by staff and students alike.  The assembly reinforced the Olweus Rules for a bully-free school in a fun and entertaining way, even using students as participants to demonstrate rules and strategies to handle bully problems.  Everyone Belongs encourages everyone to help one another.
  • PTO Volunteers for Olweus T-Shirts: Using the new PTO Volunteer Manager system, the PTO put out a call for volunteers to help our counselors sort and distribute the new Olweus t-shirts.  The system was a terrific investment – we had over 20 volunteers help to make this happen. Thank you for JUMPING IN!
  • Scholastic Newsletters and Time for Kids Newsletters: Back by teacher request!  The PTO sponsored the Scholastic Newsletters and Time for Kids newsletters.  These useful tools help make learning and reading fun and aid in the classroom learning goals.
  • Spirit Week: The PTO organized a fun-filled and exciting week of showing our Cougar Spirit!  Students dressed up silly, wacky, and crazy all week and competed in a spare change coin competition to benefit our new computer lab.  The winning class will be announced by the Cougar Mascot on Friday and wins free popcorn for the entire grade level!
  • Popcorn Friday: The PTO sponsors Popcorn Friday the first Friday of every month.  Volunteers work hard popping corn and delivering to the classes.  The Cougar Mascot will deliver the coin competition winning popcorn this Friday, October 1st.

And this is just the start!  If you haven’t already joined the PTO or supported the Fall Fundraiser, please do so.  We must have your support to keep MVES the most “cougarrific” school in the county!  The $34,000 we’re trying to raise through events and grants is in addition to the annual support the PTO provides MVES such as sponsoring assemblies, aiding the counselors, subscriptions, supplies, the 5th Grade Dance and more.

Thank you for JUMPING IN and joining us in our efforts!
