• Bake Sale: MVES Bakers have been called into action!  We’ll be selling their tasty treats at the game for $1.  A sweet treat to celebrate your team’s victory!

• Free Games: We’ll have a tire relay, corn hole, ladder ball, putt putt,football toss, and sidewalk chalk to keep the kids busy after they finish eating, voting for their favorite car and playing on the playground. Tire Relay Sponsored By Piedmont Tire & Auto.

• Raffle Tickets: Enter for a chance to win a MVES Cougar-Packed Cooler, Ping Pong Tailgate Table, or Buffalo Wild Wings Gift Card. Tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5. Are you ready for some f-o-o-t-b-a-l-l? Come cheer on your favorite teachers at Mountain View as they play an exciting game of flag football.  We’ll have games, raffles, food and fun!

• Tickets: You can purchase your tickets in advance or at the gate for $10/family.  Tickets are for family entry to the flag football game and tailgate event. For advanced tickets, please click here for the form to send in to school with payment (accepted until Monday, September 29th – after that they’ll be returned).

• Car Decorating: Show your team spirit!  Sign up your family car by September 29th and reserve premium parking at the Tailgate.  Cars must be decorated with your favorite team – or showing your MVES Cougar Spirit.  Families will receive a voting ballot at the gate to cast their vote for their favorite car.  The winning car will be announced at the end of the football game and receives a free Corn Hole game set.

Representatives from Virginia Commerce Bank will be at Mountain View Elementary during Back to School Night on September 22nd and 23rd to answer questions and open accounts. To open a Cougar Bank account, please bring your child’s social security number and a driver’s license with you to Back to School Night.

The Cougar Bank, Mountain View Elementary School’s student-run bank sponsored through a business partnership with Virginia Commerce Bank, will be opening on October 20th.  If you don’t have a Cougar Bank account open yet, now is the time to establish your account and be ready for our grand re-opening. If you’re not able to attend Back to School Night, complete a Cougar Bank Account Request Form today to receive an information packet!

Win ice cream for your class!  The MVES PTO Box Top Competition runs Sept. 13- Oct. 22.  The two classes with the most box tops collected will win an ice cream party for their class, courtesy of Harris Teeter.  All Box Top rewards will go towards the new MVES Computer Lab.  We’ve got a big goal to meet and every penny – or BOX TOP – counts!

Just clip and turn in Box Tops for Education – EASY!  Cut out around the dotted line and send in to school in a ziplock bag labeled with the Teacher’s name and number of Box Tops enclosed.   If every MVES family turns in 10 box tops per month,  that would be $500 per month or $4,500 per year!

Looking for a fun fall activity to do with the family? Want to run in a new exciting race? Want to make money for your school? Then register for the Heritage Hunt 5k or Half Marathon. The event will be held on October 3, 2010. When you register, you will be able to indicate which school you represent (Mountain View Elementary School!). For each person who registers for the race, MVES will receive $5.00! Plus, all participants receive a long-sleeve shirt, cool water bottle, and finisher medal. Thanks to all that came out and supported the PTO at MVES Meet the Teacher Night!  The PTO Ice Cream Social was a ton of fun, thanks to our sponsor Harris Teeter (be sure to re-link your VIC card at www.harristeeter.com using school code 6871).  The MVES Cougar made rounds through the school handing out high-fives as we all found our way to the classroom and met our fabulous new teachers.  Many students purchased MVES t-shirts and spirit wear and we had almost 50 families already join the PTO!

Hopefully you’ve had a chance to look through the PTO folder.  If you haven’t already joined, be sure to send in your membership form on Tuesday. And don’t forget to send in your raffle tickets – 1 for each family membership and 1 for each $10 additional donated to the PTO through the Fall Fundraiser. The winner of the 42″ flat screen TV will be announced at December BINGO.

We’re also looking for lots of volunteers this year – so JUMP IN and fill out the volunteer form, too! Our first event is the MVES Tailgate Party and Flag Football Game on October 2nd from 4-7 PM at MVES.  Volunteers are needed for small and large jobs, planning and during the event. It’s that time again to RE-LINK your store cards and send in all of the FREE MONEY items you’ve collected throughout the summer.  Every penny counts towards raising the $34,000 for new computers at MVES.  Here’s a quick summary of what the PTO is collecting:

• Bloom: Sign up your Bloom Breeze card at www.shopbloom.com (school code 01034) and shop as usual.  We earn free money just from your regular grocery purchases!

• Giant: Sign up your Giant store card at www.giantfood.com (school code 01945) and shop as usual. We receive free money from their A+ School Rewards program.

• Harris Teeter: Harris Teeter has been a dedicated sponsor of many PTO events including Spring 2010 Muffins for Moms,  Donuts for Dads, and the PTO Ice Cream Social at Meet the Teacher. Please support our sponsors and sign up your Harris Teeter VIC card at www.harristeeter.com (school code 6871) and shop as usual. We receive free money from their Together in Education program. Last year we brought in $204.93 in FREE MONEY!

• Target: Sign up your Target REDcard at www.target.com (school code 110752) and shop as usual. We receive up to 1% of your purchases from their Take Charge of Education program. Last year we brought in $686.44 in FREE MONEY!

• Box Tops: Just clip and turn in!  Check all the items you purchase for the Box Top label.  Cut out neatly around the dotted line and send in to school in a ziplock bag labeled with your Teacher’s name and the number of Box Tops. MVES receives 10¢ for each box top.

• Tyson Chicken Box and Bag Labels: Another clip and turn in! Check all the Tyson Chicken products for the Tyson Project A+ label, cut out neatly and send in to school.  MVES receives 42¢ for each label.

• Phones & Ink: Send in your old cell phones, used ink cartridges, video game       systems, laptops, MP3, digital cameras, digital video cameras, or GPS devices.  They’ll be recycled and we earn free money—up to $350 per item!  Good for the environment and good for us.

• Good Search: Change your web browser to Good Search and we earn free money every time you search the internet.  Go to www.goodsearch.com and link to MVES. Use Good Search for all your future internet searches.
